About Chino Twill

Chino twill is woven in a 2×1 or 3×1 twill structure — each weft thread passes over two or three warp threads in a progressive diagonal sequence — producing the characteristic diagonal rib that gives twill fabrics their drape advantage over plain weaves of similar weight. For chino trouser applications the fabric is typically combed cotton at 7–9 oz/yd², mercerized to increase luster and dye uptake, and given a soft-brushed or calendered finish that contributes the smooth, almost suede-like hand associated with classic chinos. The diagonal construction allows warp and weft yarns to shift slightly under stress, giving twill a natural give that plain-weave fabrics of the same thread count lack. This property, combined with medium weight, makes chino twill the preferred fabric for five-pocket and flat-front casual trouser constructions.
